ADvanced Storage System workshop (ADSS2005)

Overview

The Advanced Storage System Workshop(ADSS) is dedicated to discussion of the theory and the experience of storage system.

2nd ADSS will be held to provide a forum for researchers from United States and Japan to come together to discuss and exchange new research, tools and practices as well as to identify new issue and possible direction for future research and development work on storage system.

About Invited Speakers

We are delighted to announce that we have been able to invite five world famous researchers of storage systems from the U.S.A. and Japan as invited speakers of the ADSS2005 .

• Prof. Greg Ganger (Carnegie Mellon University)
  is a professor in the ECE department at Carnegie Mellon University. He has broad research interests in computer systems, including storage systems, security, and operating systems. Some ongoing projects explore self-securing devices, storage survivability, more expressive storage interfaces, MEMS-based storage, and of course self-* storage. Greg is the Director of CMU's Parallel Data Lab, academia's premiere storage systems research center. His Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering is from The University of Michigan, and he spent 2.5 years as a postdoc at MIT.
• Prof. Masaru Kitsuregawa (University of Tokyo)
  received the B.E. degree in electronics engineering in 1978, and the Ph.D degree in information engineering in 1983 from theUniversity of Tokyo. In 1983 joined Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo as a lecturer. He is currently a professor at the University of Tokyo and is a director of center for information fusion. His research interests include parallel processing and database engineering. He is a member of steering committee of IEEE ICDE, PAKDD etc. He served a chair of ACM SIGMOD Japan Chapter and was a trustee member of VLD endowment and the chairman of the technical group on data engineering in IEICE Japan. He served a director of Information Processing Society of Japan. He was a general chair of IEEE ICDE2005(Intl. Conf. on Data Engineering) and is for IEEE MDM2006 and APWeb2006 is co-program chair for ICDE1999, WISE2005 and PAKDD2006.
• Dr. Arif Merchant (Hewlett Packard Laboratories)
  is Project Scientist in the Storage Systems Program at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories. His research interests include the design and modeling of storage systems. He received a B. Tech. from IIT, Bombay and a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University. He worked at the IBM Watson Research Center in Hawthorne, NY, and the NEC Computer and Communications Research Laboratories in Princeton, NJ, before joining HP Labs in 1995.
• Prof. Masato Oguchi (Ochanomizu University )
  received the B.E. degree in electrical engineering from Keio University in 1990, and the M.E. degree in electrical engineering and the D.E. degree in electronics engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1992 and 1995, respectively. From 1995 to 1996 he was a research fellow at National Center for Science Information Systems (NACSIS, Japan). Since 1996 he has been a research fellow at the Institute of Industrial Science, the University of Tokyo. He was a visiting researcher of Aachen University of Technology in Germany from 1998 to 2000. and an Associate Professor of Research and Development Initiative, Chuo University from 2001 to 2003. He is currently an Associate Professor of Department of Information Sciences, Ochanomizu University. His research interests include distributed computing systems and computer networks. He is a member of IEEE, ACM, IEICE and IPSJ.
• Prof. Robert Russell (The University of New Hampshire)
  received a B.A. in mathematics and physics from Yale University in 1965, an M.S. in computer science from Stanford University in 1967, and a Ph.D. in computer science from Stanford University in 1972. In 1975 he joined the faculty of the University of New Hampshire, where he is now an Associate Professor of Computer Science. Since 2000 he has been associated with the UNH InterOperability Lab and is currently working with the iSCSI (Internet Small Computer Systems Interconnect) and iWARP (the family of protocols for remote direct memory access over TCP/IP) consortia at IOL. His current interests are in storage area networks.
